The Mediterranean Garden Society (MGS) acts as a focus for everyone who has a special interest in the plants and gardens of mediterranean-climate regions. The MGS has members in thirty-eight countries throughout the world and Branches of the society have been formed in many areas to organise meetings and activities locally. The society publishes a quarterly journal The Mediterranean Garden with articles contributed by its members. The garden at Sparoza, just outside Athens, is managed by the society to demonstrate gardening that is in sympathy with the natural surroundings and our philosophy of waterwise gardening. A complete set of maps with details of all the plants at Sparoza is available. The MGS is a place for discussing mediterranean plants, cultivated and wild, as well as every aspect of gardens and gardening in a mediterranean climate. MGS members may also join in the Seed Exchange. The previous version of the MGS website has been archived and can viewed in non-responsive format.


Latest News - On 20 November 2022, The General Assembly voted with a majority in support of all the proposed changes to the MGS Charter. The Society will now take the appropriate steps to implement these changes.

The Mediterranean Garden Journal is the flagship publication of the MGS which has run to well over 100 editions. Whilst the Journal is usually only available to members of the MGS, we are making TMG 100 available for all those who would like to read this historic and informative publication. In addition, we are making available the early editions of TMG, first published in summer 1995. We will be posting these quarterly for free download as pdf files by clicking here or on the images below. The MGS hopes that during these difficult times, some glimpses into the world of mediterranean gardens will provide an enjoyable diversion.


The MGS is a non-profit-making association founded in Greece in 1994. The aims of the MGS are broad so as to cover the wide range of mediterranean plant and gardening interests of its members.
